About the Author
Personal Introduction
Dear visitor, welcome to the website dedicated to the history, origins, and heritage of the Tandara family name.
My name is Jure Tandara, a retired road traffic engineer, 70 years old and already six years into retirement. I live in Zagreb with my wife Ruža. I am the father of two sons — Ivica Julio and Marin Tin — and the grandfather of five grandchildren: Vigo, David, Jakov, Kaia, and Laura.
After a long professional career, I now devote my time to family, exploring our roots, and everything that connects me with nature and creativity.
Professional Career
My professional career began as the Head of the workshop for the repair and maintenance of the rolling stock of Croatian Railways in Zagreb, where I was responsible for the organization, supervision, and quality of maintenance, as well as the operational reliability of the rolling stock. This initial role provided a strong technical and organizational foundation for my further work in the field of transport systems.
After that, I worked as the Head of the container terminal in Zagreb, where I was responsible for managing terminal operations, organizing freight flows, and coordinating logistics processes.
I later assumed the position of Head of the traffic safety service on the Rijeka–Zagreb Motorway. In cooperation with my colleague, the Head of the maintenance sector, Mr. Dinko Pešut, we established a modern system for motorway maintenance and traffic safety management — the first such system in the Republic of Croatia. Our work was recognized by the European Commission, which awarded the Tuhobić Tunnel the title of the safest tunnel in Europe in 2009, acknowledging the significant improvement achieved after its poor initial safety rating in 2004.
An important part of my professional work was the management of the RDS‑TMC system implementation project in the Republic of Croatia, laying the foundation for modern traffic information services and integrating national road data into the European dynamic traffic management network.
Sport and Technical Creativity
Alongside my professional work, I dedicated a significant part of my life to sport and technical creativity. I hold a black belt in karate and was a former member of the Karate Club Tempo representative team. For many years, I was also active in skiing, mountaineering and cycling.
I found special joy in making models of historical ships, replicas of Roman and ancient war machines, and wooden toys for my grandchildren.
Family and Everyday Life
Today, I find the greatest joy in nature and in the time spent with my grandchildren, creating memories with them that reach beyond generations. My family, children, grandchildren and friends remain my greatest source of inspiration and joy in life.
About the Project
This web project is currently in its early development phase. The collected materials are extensive, and new ones are still being added, so it will take time to process, organize, and present everything as a complete digital archive of the Tandara lineage. The site is open to the public so you can follow its gradual growth and updates.
This project was created out of a desire to collect, preserve and systematically present in one place information about our ancestors, family branches, the places where they lived and the events that shaped the history of the Tandara family line.
Over time, many valuable records have been lost, forgotten or scattered among various archives and private collections. Therefore, the purpose of these pages is to preserve our family heritage, historical identity and memories for present and future generations.
The family trees and information published on these pages are the result of many years of research in parish archives, parish registers, historical sources, archival records and the testimonies of family members.
A special place in this research belongs to the work of Milan Lažeta, whose publication “Rodoslovlje plemena Tandara” laid the foundation for further study of the history and origin of our family and remains one of the most valuable sources for understanding the heritage of the Tandara family line.
Every piece of information discovered represents a small but significant part of the mosaic that together forms the story of our origins.
These are the first web pages dedicated to the Tandara surname. Their purpose is to lay the foundation for a shared family genealogy and to encourage future generations to continue researching, expanding and preserving the history of our family line.
Acknowledgement
This digital archive would not have come into existence without the people who, through their knowledge, dedication and love for our family heritage, laid its firm foundations.
I owe special gratitude to my cousin and friend Vice Tandara, whose enthusiasm and vision initiated the creation of the publication “Rodoslovlje plemena Tandara”. His idea to research, preserve and permanently record the history of our family line was the beginning of a project that has left a lasting mark for future generations.
I also express my sincere and deep gratitude to our mutual friend Milan Lažeta, author of the publication “Rodoslovlje plemena Tandara”. For many years, he devoted himself to researching church and state archives, parish registers and many other historical sources, patiently collecting and connecting information about the branches and family lines of the large Tandara family. The result of his many years of work was poured into this exceptionally valuable publication, which represents an invaluable contribution to preserving the history and heritage of our family line.
The publication “Rodoslovlje plemena Tandara” represents the foundation and principal source of information on which this digital archive has been built. Without the vision of Vice Tandara and the dedicated research work of Milan Lažeta, this project would not have been possible.
To both of them I express my heartfelt gratitude and deep respect for their immeasurable contribution to preserving the shared heritage of the Tandara family line.
